GSM has a successful record in turning around schools that are failing academically and financially. A leading example is Columbus Bilingual Academy, a public charter school located in the state of Ohio’s capital city. The school implements a specialty bilingual model and serves students from kindergarten to 8th Grade. As well as offering daily Spanish lessons, the school employs a bilingual staff and enriches curriculum through cultural experiences and celebrations.
The GSM team began managing the school in Fall 2017 when the school served 265 students and its performance index score was lower than 60 points. In less than 12 months under GSM’s stewardship, the school experienced a 10-point performance index growth. Consistent with schools across the US, academic performance dipped during the pandemic, but the school quickly achieved full academic recovery while simultaneously doubling its student body.
Today, the school serves over 460 students and in a recent review of student progress, Columbus Bilingual Academy achieved a 5 out of 5 star rating in student progress by the Department of Education for significantly exceeding state expectations in the amount of learning students made in one school year, a tremendous feat for a student population of 88% English language learners who are classified as nearly 100% economically disadvantaged, with 10% being unhoused.
As a testament to GSM’s achievements, in September 2024, a brand-new bilingual school was opened in the same market because demand for the successful program was so high.
